In California, yes — SB 476 (Health & Safety Code §113948) requires employers to pay for food handler training and prohibits deducting the cost from your paycheck. In our other states, employers may choose to pay but are not required to. Employers can cover a whole team through our employer portal.

You can present the digital copy on your phone or print a physical copy — many employers accept the digital version. Check with your employer.

You can edit your certificate name any time before you pass the final exam. Once a certificate is issued we cannot reissue it with a corrected name, so double-check your name before starting the exam.

There's no separate renewal fee or shortcut course — when your certificate approaches its expiration date, you take the course and exam again at the regular price. States allow renewal in a window before expiry (for example, 60 days in Texas and 90 days in California).

Employers and health inspectors can verify any FoodCardNow certificate at foodcardnow.com/verify using the certificate number, or by scanning the QR code printed on the certificate. Verification is free and takes seconds.

Yes. Our employer portal lets you purchase seats, invite employees, and track who has completed training — across every state we cover. Start at the For Employers page.
